What is a 5xx Server Error? Instagram, WhatsApp & Facebook

5xx Server Error

5xx Server Error – Social media companies Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp reportedly crashed when users reported issues on the platforms.

According to Down Detector, problem reports began around 4 pm Monday afternoon.
The reason for the problems surrounding the three companies of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg remains unknown.

What is a 5xx Server Error?

Instagram users reported seeing a message with a 5xx server error message.
A 5xx code means that the problem was caused by a problem with the server.

Typically, the error occurs when the server cannot fulfil the user’s request and will continue until the server administration investigates the problem.

It is also significant to note that a server chain often processes an HTTP request, so it may not be your server that returns the error.

According to the DownDetector website, over 600 messages were detected in the 15 minutes until 4:45 pm.

Is WhatsApp Inactive?

Down detector saw a rapid increase in reported issues around 4:00 pm Monday.
43% of the reports point to problems connecting to the server, while the app (31%) and sending messages (26%) are other problems reported by users.

Is Instagram Down?

Users started reporting reports posted on DownDetector using Instagram around 4:00 pm on Monday.
50% of the reported issues were app-related, while the server connection (27%) and the website (23%) were other reported issues.

Is Facebook Down Today?

Again, users started reporting problems around 4 pm on Monday, with 78% of the reports issued being linked to the website.

12% of the reports were connected to the app, while 10% were related to the server connection.
A 5xx code indicates that the server triggered the problem. With a 5xx code, the request can be unchanged, and you will get the desired result when the server has been repaired. With the 4xx code, the client or user usually has to correct an error before trying again, but few exceptions exist. You can learn about the most acceptable practices for 4xx codes.

5xx Errors

5xx errors are due to the server being incapable of fulfilling a seemingly effective appeal from a guest. Frequently, you will need the help of a server administrator to investigate them.

It is also essential to remember that a server chain often processes an HTTP request, so it may not be your server that returns the error.

500 Internal Server Error

This error indicates that the server comes across an unexpected condition. It frequently occurs when an application request cannot be satisfy due to an incorrect application configuration on the server.

501 Not Instigated

This error specifies that the server does not support the HTTP method sent by the client. Most of the time, this is cause by the server being out of date. It is an infrequent error and generally requires updating the webserver.

502 Bad Gateway

This error is usually due to an incorrectly configured proxy server. However, the problem can also arise when IP communication between back-end computers is poor, when the client’s server is fraught, or when a firewall is malfunctioning.

The initial step in resolving the problem is to clear the client cache. This action should involve using a different proxy to determine the webserver content by planning it with content calendars.

503 Service Not Available

This error occurs when the server is temporarily unable to process requests due to a temporary overload or because of the temporary shut down of the server temporarily for maintenance. The error indicates that the server is only temporarily inactive. You may see other errors instead of 503.
Contact the server administrator if the problem persists.

504 Gateway Timeout

This error occurs when a server somewhere in the chain does not receive a timely response further up the chain. The problem is solely due to the slow communication between the upstream computers.
Contact your system administrator to resolve this issue.

505 HTTP Version Not Supported

This error occurs when the server does not support the HTTP protocol specified by the client computer. It could be because the client’s computer does not identify the protocol correctly; if an invalid version number was specified.

506 Variant Also Negotiations

This error specifies that the server’s configuration is not correct. Contact your system administrator to resolve this issue.

507 Out of Memory

This error indicates that there is no more free space on the server. It is most likely when a requested application cannot allocate the system resources it needs to run.
You may need to remove unnecessary documents from the server hard drive to free up more hard drive space to fix this. You may need to expand the memory or reboot.
Contact your system manager for more information on this error message.

509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded

This error occurs when the bandwidth limit set by the system administrator has been reach. The only solution to this problem is to wait for the limit to reset in the next cycle.
Contact your system administrator for information on purchasing wider bandwidth.

510 Not Extended

This error occurs when the webserver does not support an extension attached to the HTTP request.
You may need to upgrade the server to resolve this problem. Contact your system administrator for more information.
